Summary edit

Description
English: Built in 1889, this Romanesque Revival-style building was originally constructed as the Agricultural Experiment Station facility, and was reconstructed after being gutted by a fire in 1891. The building is the second-oldest on the university’s campus, housing the Chemistry Department from 1905 until the 1920s, the College of Law from 1925 until the 1930s, and the campus infirmary from 1939 until the 1960s, eventually becoming home to university administrative offices in 1962. In 1978, the building was renamed in honor of Ezra Gillis (1867-1958), the first registrar at the University of Kentucky, serving from 1910 until 1937. The building features a red brick exterior, a cylindrical corner tower with a conical roof, one-over-one and casement windows, stone trim, brick corbeling, a rough-hewn stone base, a one-story bay window on the side facade with a hipped roof, and an entrance bay with an arched transom recessed behind a large arched opening. The building today houses office space for the University of Kentucky’s graduate school and administration.
