Description

A U.S. Navy McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C-25-MC Hornet (BuNo 163495) of Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-83 "Rampagers" about to be launched from the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-60) during the 1991 Gulf War. The aircraft is armed with AGM-88 HARM missiles and Mk 82 bombs. VFA-83 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW-17) aboard the Saratoga for a deployment the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea from 7 August 1990 to 28 March 1991.

163495 later crashed on 18 January 2006 eight kilometres north of Naval Air Facility El Centro, California (USA), during a night bombing training flight while in service with VFA-97. The pilot was killed.
