| Description | Four photos showing the crash of a U.S. Navy McDonnell F2H-2 Banshee (BuNo 124968) of Fighter Squadron VF-172 "Night Owls" aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9) off Korea. VF-172 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5) aboard the Essex for a deployment to Korea from 26 June 1951 to 25 March 1952. The aircraft, piloted by Lt.JG Keller, crashed into parked aircraft in a deck landing accident which resulted in the loss of seven lives and four aircraft: two F2H-2s (BuNos 124966 & 124968) and two F9F-2s (BuNos 125128 & 125131). |
