Description
Deutsch: Altstadt von Frankfurt am Main, Saalhof/Historisches Museum: Im Juli 2012 wurden bei Ausschachtungsarbeiten für einen Neubau des Historischen Museums unmittelbar an den nördlichen Fundamenten des vormaligen Königshofes Saalhof die Überreste eines hochmittelalterlichen Main-Flusshafens aus dem 12. Jahrhundert entdeckt.

Die Überreste des Hafens bestehen aus einer Kaimauer aus Naturstein, die von Sachverständigen auf das Jahr 1190, in die Zeit der Staufer datiert wurde, sowie aus einer zusätzlichen Befestigung aus Eichenholzbalken, die nach dem Resultat einer dendrologischen Untersuchung zuletzt zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts erneuert worden war.

Das Foto entstand bei einer vom Hochbauamt der Stadt Frankfurt veranstalteten Führung an der archäologischen Ausgrabungsstätte nach dem vorläufigem Abschluss der Grabung. Anschließend soll die Grabungsstätte aus Konservierungsgründen vorübergehend wieder verfüllt werden.
