English: Family tree of Mexica rulers in the manuscript of the genealogy of Don Pedro Dionisio, a Mexican manuscript written in 1566. The complete genealogy shows the ancestry of this nobleman, as his ancestors were Mexica rulers.
At the upper left is Itzcóatl, fourth tlatoani of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, and at the right is Moctezuma I, his successor. Below Itzcóatl appears Tezozómoc (not to be confused with the Tepanec ruler), son of Chimalpopoca, who was the third ruler of Mexico-Tenochtitlan. Below Moctezuma I appears Atotoztli, an important noblewoman. Below both appear their sons Axayácatl (center), Tízoc (left) and Ahuizotl (right), all of whom would eventually become rulers as well. Axayácatl was the father of Moctezuma II, successor of Ahuizotl, who would famously become the first ruler of Mexico to establish contact with a European people, these being from Spain. |
