Summary edit

Description
English: The Blind Bishop's Steps leading from Castle Street to Farnham Castle. The steps are reputed to have been built by Richard Fox (1448-1528) when he was Bishop of Winchester (from 1501) and living at the bishop's residence of Farnham Castle. Fox was blind for the last ten years of his life, and as the steps comprise seven sets of seven steps with seven paces between each set (hence the phrase "Seven by Seven Paces" associated with these steps), they are relatively convenient for a blind person to ascend and descend by counting the steps and paces in between.
