Description

A Romano-Egyptian Fayum portrait of a young woman In encaustic on limewood, shown in three-quarter view with her hair coiffured high on top of her head, and wearing two polychrome necklaces, one of oval beads, above one with hanging pendant lances and a central disc pendant, wearing a bluish tunic, approximately 12¼ x 6in. (31 x 15cm.), the surface consolidated in places, with deep vertical fissures and some damage above the right eyebrow, part of the left ear and hair above missing, mounted in a glazed frame FOOTNOTES Provenance: Accompanied by a French passport.
