Summary edit

Description Idaho fescue, with its blue green leaves, leaf blades that abruptly narrow from the broader leaf sheath, and bilobed ligule set on the stair-step at the junction of the leaf blade and sheath, is common along the JMT and varies from short- to tall-statured (i.e., less than 10 cm to over 30 cm tall) as a function of exposure. High elevation exposed sites harbor short-statured individuals.
