English: Field and woods, Great Ridge near Sherrington 3. This wheat field looking east is high up at the eastern end of Great Ridge. Although described as a chalk ridge, the top of the ridge here at 205m is relatively flat as can be seen in this photo. The wood on the right is Gattrell's Copse, and the wood in the distance is Stockton Wood. The line of the Roman road from the river Axe in Somerset to Old Sarum (old Salisbury) runs diagonally up the field from the left off camera (see 469592) to the right side of Stockton Wood. |
