FIFTY YEARS SYNE. 8i l)y solemn prayer to Almighty God set apart the men ofthe peoples choice to the office of elder or presbyter inthe Church of Christ. Mr. Clark is the only survivor of the little band.He came to Otago in the ship Blundell. He wasone of the most trusted advisers of his ministerin the early days, and threw himself heartily intoevery Christian enterprise. He is a man of finespiritual insight and capacity. Though his voice isseldom heard, his counsel is highly valued. He is,after all these years of change, a kind of Nestor to anew generation. The available materials for forming asound judgment on any question before his Session arenot regarded as complete until he has spoken. Theflame of his youthful devotion may have in a measurespent itself, but there remains a glow of piety befittingthe evening hours of a toilsome day.
