Description
Svenska: Statyett av biskvi. Den franske dramatikern Pierre Corneille (1606-1684)sitter i en länstol författande en dikt. I handen håller han några pappersblad varpå läses titlarna på en del av hans arbeten; Le Cid,. Horace, Cinna och Polyceute m.fl. På fotplattans otydligt ristat: FAIT PAR J J CAFFIERE EN 1779. Modellerad efter Jean Jacques Caffieris originalskulptur från 1779. Beställningen av denna skulptur daterar sig från 1778 och marmorstatyn, som i våra dagar befinner sig på Louvren, ställdes ut på Parissalongen år 1779. I museet i Rouen, författarens födelseort, finns även ett exemplar i terrakotta i naturlig storlek och hans mest kända pjäser omnämns där med titel. Lerskulpturen i mindre skala, som tillverkades i Sèvres, betalades till Caffiéri den 6 april 1784 och skulpturen av Molière den 22 januari 1785 (2). Troligtvis på grund av utrymmesbrist på den förminskade modellen förkortades inskriptionerna på sockeln av Corneilleskulpturen en aning. De många sprickorna efter bränningen och Le Riches stämpel gör att det faktiskt rör sig om ett exemplar från 1700-talet. Det är i så fall det enda existerande exemplaret. Då han möjligtvis kände sig uppmuntrad av detta samarbete, erbjöd Caffiéri år 1788 fabriken i Sèvres modeller och gipsformer till två statyettgrupper: Vänskapen överraskad av Amor och Amor besegrar allt.
