Summary edit

Description

First Presbyterian Church, South Street, New Orleans, 1938. Side (West) elevation. (Church Street looking towards Lafayette Square.)

Note: This was the church formerly on the uptown side of Lafayette Square. The structure was first built in 1857 and collapsed in the Great New Orleans Hurricane of 1915. It was rebuilt incorporating some surviving sections of exterior walls of the old structure, although with a different appearance and without the high steeple of the earlier version of the church. This photo was taken shortly before it was demolished in April-May 1938.
