| Description |
English: Built in 1904-1908, this Romanesque Revival-style building was constructed for the congregation of First Baptist Church, which was founded by a group of free black residents of Frankfort as a congregation for the city’s free black population in 1833. The building features a red brick exterior, rough-hewn stone base, towers with corner octagonal turrets, roman arched bays with louvers, an octagonal belfry atop the taller tower with a spire featuring a finial, gabled roofs with gable parapets, roman arched, double-hung, and rose windows, and recessed entrance doors in barrel vaulted openings. The building is a contributing structure in the Old Statehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and the Central Frankfort Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. |
