Description
Cymraeg: Mae ein camerâu monitro wedi cipio lluniau o haig o Dorgochiaid yr Arctig prin yn agosáu at eu tiroedd silio yn Afon y Bala yn Llyn Padarn, Llanberis yn ystod oriau golau dydd, am y tro cyntaf, gan adael i ni gael lluniau gwych o ‘r pysgod prin hyn.

Rydym wedi bod yn defnyddio camerâu i fonitro eu niferoedd a’u hactifedd ers 2011 ond gan fod y Torgoch fel arfer yn mudo i’w tiroedd silio yn yr oriau o dywyllwch, mae wedi bod yn anodd dal delweddau fel y rhain.

Mae niferoedd y Torgoch wedi bod yn gostwng ond mae rhaglen i wella ansawdd y dŵr yn y llyn ac i fridio silod mân ifanc mewn caethiwed wedi cael ei sefydlu i’w helpu. Dyma fideo a gymerwyd ym mis Rhagfyr 2014 o sut rydym wedi gwneud hyn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN-cBK3H42g

Mae hefyd yn galonogol bod yr haig hon yn cynnwys cymysgedd o Dorgoch sydd wedi cael eu hesgyll wedi ‘u tocio - sy’n golygu ein bod wedi eu rhyddhau i mewn i’r llyn - a’r rhai gyda’u hesgyll heb eu tocio - sy’n golygu eu bod wedi cael eu geni yn naturiol yn y llyn.

Bellach mae Llyn Padarn wedi cael ei dynodi fel unig lyn ymdrochi dŵr ffres yng Nghymru, ac mae canlyniadau samplau a gymerwyd gan Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru eleni wedi cyrraedd safon uchaf o “ardderchog”. Rydym hefyd wedi sefydlu poblogaeth wrth gefn mewn llyn arall gerllaw.

Mae’n rhy gynnar i ddod i unrhyw gasgliadau eto am ddyfodol y boblogaeth Torgoch yn Llyn Padarn, ond mae’n rheswm dros fod yn obeithiol, fod dal gan Dorgoch yr Arctig dyfodol yn y llyn.
English: Our monitoring cameras have captured a shoal of rare Arctic Charr approaching their spawning grounds in Afon Y Bala at Llyn Padarn, Llanberis during daylight hours for the first time, letting us have some great images of these rare fish.

We've been using cameras to monitor their numbers and activity since 2011 but as the Charr normally migrate to their spawning grounds in the hours of darkness, it's been difficult to pick up images such as these.

Charr numbers have been declining but a programme to improve the water quality in the lake and to breed young fry in captivity has been set up to help them. Here's a video taken in December 2014 of how we do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN-cBK3H42g

It's also encouraging that this shoal includes a mixture of Charr which have been fin-clipped - which means we released them into the lake - and non-fin-clipped - which means they were born naturally in the lake.

Llyn Padarn has now been designated as Wales' only fresh water bathing lake and the results of samples taken by Natural Resources Wales there this year have reached the highest "excellent" standard. We have also established a back-up population in another lake nearby.

It's too early to draw any conclusions from this for the future of the Arctic Charr population at Llyn Padarn, but it is cause for optimism that the Arctic Charr still has a future in the lake.
