DescriptionFlat Bampenboon.jpg |
English: Flat Bampenboon, the old apartment in Wang Burapha, Bangkok.
Built on the former site of the namesake market that flourished before World War II until around 1960s and 1970s, as part of the popular commercial district, Wang Burapha. Around the late 19th century to the early 20th century, the location of the market was previously the residence of Prince Unakan Ananta Norajaya, the son of King Rama IV and half-brother of King Rama V. When he died in 1873 at the age of 17, his palace, named Wang Saphan Than, it was transferred to his younger brother of full blood, Prince Devawongse Varoprakar until in 1918, during the reign of King Rama VI, the prince moved out to a new residence, Wang Thewawet. Wang Saphan Than was then demolished to build a two-story market building. The land in this area is owned by the Crown Property Bureau (CPU). When the popularity of Wang Burapha deteriorated, CPU then demolished the market and rebuilt it into rental apartment until now. It is located in Soi Na Wang, Wang Burapha Phirom subdistrict, Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, behind the Old Siam Plaza and Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. |
