About The function of Mushrabiyah

It's one of the most familiar features in the Muslim Architecture. It has many benefits... Environmentally: It's idea is to help in breeze through Mashrabiyah since it's made of wood, therefore the wood as a material help in breeze in addition to the small openings prevent The ultraviolet rays, allow more ventilation, increase humidity of air inside with decrease in temperature, control radiation itself & avoid glare due to sudden change in Lighting. Moreover during night, humidity is absorbed as humidity increase during night while during the day, humidity or air decrease and evaporation takes place, so it keeps the cool breeze during the day so the indoors temperature is not affected badly by the hot weather.

Socially: It allows view and Privacy as they are essential aspect of Arabic culture.

Architecturally One of the major architectural benefits is correcting the footprint shape of the land. Due to winding and irregular streets, plots of land are also commonly irregular in shape while the house designs are usually regular (squares and rectangles). This would cause irregular shapes of some rooms and creates dead corners. The projection allows correcting the shapes of the rooms on the upper floors, hence allowing to utilize the entire plot. This also increased the usable space without increasing the plot size.
