February 17, 2004. Before the snow storms hit, the Alpine Unit of the IDF begins its winter training and sets out to protect the safety of the many visitors of the Hermon. The Alpine Unit carries out regional defense tactics, shooting while skiing at high speeds, snowmobiling, and riding Sno-Cats. The unit is comprised of volunteer reserve soldiers who served in elite units during their regular service and who take part in reserve days in Judea and Samaria and the northern border, particularly Mt. Hermon. |
