U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (Aug. 27, 2012) Civilian contractors secure an M18 Mod 2 Kingfish unmanned underwater vehicle to the deck of an 11-meter rigid hull inflatable boat. The Kingfish uses side scan sonar to search and discover objects of interest. This marks the first time the vehicles have been added to mine countermeasure operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
