English: Floating homes on the Duwamish River, Seattle, Washington, 1954. Cement plant in background. Locally these would have been called "houseboats," but they were basically floating shanties. Item 45982, Engineering Department Photographic Negatives (Record Series 2613-07), Seattle Municipal Archives. Seattle Municipal Archives changed its URL scheme circa 2022; the older URLs beginning with "clerk" are deprecated, and will eventually fail.
