| Description |
English: Apparent cross bedding in Salto del Fraile formation at Morro Solar. Lima, Peru. Notice the diagonal structures unparallel to the sandstone bedding, indicating a predominant flow strength and direction (flood over ebb tide). Would there have been an opposing flow structure (indicating a predominant ebb over flood tide), we would have had a herringbone type structure, and hence, actual cross bedding.
Español: Aparente estratificación cruzada de la formación Salto del Fraile en el Morro Solar. Lima, Perú. Notar las estructuras oblicuas a la estratificación de las areniscas, indicando una dirección y fuerza predominante en la corriente de llegada a la orilla (llamada también corriente de flujo). De observarse estructuras en sentido opuesto (indicando predominancia de la corriente de regreso al mar, o de reflujo) tendríamos una estructura de tipo herringbone o "cola de pescado", y una estratificación cruzada propiamente dicha. |
