English: New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina:
Levee work ongoing beside the Florida Canal at the back of the Lower 9th Ward, just above the St. Bernard Parish line, photo from open public street. I was not allowed to take any photos closer than this. A security guard told me not to nor walk closer to the work. This is the only time in my 5 months back in town that anyone has objected to my taking photos of levee work from public streets. The guard said they were "not at liberty" to say who was doing the work or what was going on or why close photos were not allowed. Possibly this was related to reports of threats addressed to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works by Lower 9th Ward residents after it became known that faulty design of the levees by the USACOE was responsible for the flooding of the majority of New Orleans. |
