English: Folds at Penally Point near Boscastle in Cornwall, England. Below the phone is a fold that has been bent over again. This means the fold has been refolded. These are rare features in the area but are key for geologists to unpick the geological history of the area. In this case the Carboniferous Culm basin sediments were inverted during the Variscan Orogeny (construction of Pangea). The basin was 'squashed' to just 30% of its original lateral volume. |
