La grotte de la Fontaine des quatre fleuves (détail) (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi)

Dessinée par le Bernin et sculptée par son école, cette fontaine située au centre de la "piazza Navona" est une oeuvre majeure du baroque romain.

La fontaine comprend en son centre un obélisque inséré dans une grotte de rocaille évidée sur laquelle se tiennent les quatre allégories des fleuves (continents connus à l'époque) : Danube, Rio de la Plata, Gange, Nil.
