English: Ford Place - 18th century sundial Located high on the outside of the wall to the kitchen garden of Ford Place, this sundial must have been in a much sunnier position with less vegetation around it when was first installed. Now it is in the shade for much of the time so it no longer provides visitors to the garden with the time in the old, traditional way. However, it does have a message on its shaded face dated 1724 which says, "Life's but a walking shadow". A wise saying that should make one stop and think. The kitchen garden is freely open to the public and the path to the garden entrance passes this sundial set in the south facing wall.
