Summary edit

Description
English: The former Farmington State Savings Bank building, 33425 Grand River Avenue at Farmington Avenue, Farmington, Michigan, December 2020. The Neoclassical style of this handsome two-story edifice was very popular in the era of its construction for institutions of high importance such as banks, and the design features engaged, fluted Doric columns intercalated between the windows on both façades and flanking the corner entrance, an entablature bearing the name of the building topped consecutively with a cornice and parapet, and some fine Classical-style ornamentation on that portion of the parapet above the entrance, incorporating ancone, urn, and festoon motifs. Farmington State Savings Bank appears to have been founded in 1918, and moved into the building depicted in the photo (whose construction was funded by the family of former Michigan governor Fred Warner) upon its completion four years later. After the company's purchase in 1956 by the National Bank of Detroit, it continued to serve as offices for its new owner and its successor, Chase Bank, until the 1970s. The building was most recently used as the Village Mall, home to a series of specialty boutiques, and as of the time the photo was taken is undergoing renovations as future home to GLP Financial Group, a local wealth management firm.
