English: Former Thor Missile Launch Pad at Polebrook Airfield A Thor ballistic missile squadron of Bomber Command was formed at Polebrook in 1959, staying until August 1963 when it was disbanded. Three missile launch pads were constructed on this now disused airfield, and the locations of these are well marked on the 1:25,000 OS map. This view shows the most southerly pad with the concrete blast walls clearly visible. |
