| Description |
English: Former lockkeeper's house, Goraghwood near Newry. See 1394643. The lock was known as "Alec Crothers' lock" after a former lockkeeper. Whether he lived in this house is not clear. The history of the Newry Canal describes it as "early nineteenth century" and includes a (later) photograph showing it with a window on each side of the front door and one upstairs in the gable on the northern side. There was a smaller and lower outbuilding attached on the southern side. The chimney (with no pots visible) was in the middle of the roof and there was a well-trimmed hedge on the northern side only. |
