Notes FRANCOIS POTIER MARQUIS de Gesvres, Mareschal des Camps et Armées, Capitaine des Gardes du Corps de Sa Majesté, Bailly de Valois et de Caen ; fils de René Potier Comte de Tresmes, Chevalier des Ordres du Roy et de Marguerite de Luxembourg de la branche de Piney : Servant en qualité de Lieutenant général de l'armée soubs le Duc d'Enguy en fut tué au siège de Thionville de la ruine d'une mine à l'aage de 32 ans le 6 aout 1643 après avoir donné des preuves de sa valeur en mille rencontres, receu en diverses parties de son corps 32 plaies et mérité le Brevet de Mareschal de France.
