Dear Mary,
What a sad and sudden blow to you all! I feel deeply for you & dear James & Mrs Greenleaf but you all have the comfort of feeling that to the good man no summons can be unexpected or find him unprepared to obey it – painful as it must be to you to see him lifted up without a farewell word.
[p. 2] What can I do for you? My seamstress is at your service for either shopping or sewing – Pray make use of her without hesitation.
My black crape bonnet you may like to save yourself the immediate thought of such things & if I have any thing else let me know. I wish I were able to come & see you to talk over these things but tho’ still about am not quite equal to that distance.
