Description |
Erworben als anonymes Bildnis, wurde GK 515 erst seit G. Gronau mit Francesco I. de Medici (1541-1587; 1574 Großherzog von Toskana) in Verbindung gebracht. K. Langedijk, Florenz, hält diese Identifizierung für unbegründet, Lehmann hält weiterhin an ihr fest. Er meint den Namen des Fürsten in der Inschrift zu erkennen, doch sind die Buchstaben sehr undeutlich. * Anfänglich als Werk des Jacopo Bassano geführt, später dessen Werkstatt oder einem der Söhne zugeordnet. Lehmanns Zuschreibung an Paolo Veronese weckt aus qualitativen Gründen, wegen der wenig akzentuierten Modellierung und Glanzlichter, Zweifel. Pignatti und Cocke schlossen sich ihr an, doch Pallucchini wies sie zurück und sprach sich wie bereits Gronau für Francesco Bassano als Urheber aus. Dieser Auffassung neigt (1991) auch A.
