English: Issue 21, Table 244 / Title on the table: To the Great Storehouse. / Original description: From the present Bethmann Street an old building can be seen which is bordered by the Red Cross Lange (named Dieterich's Lane up to the 17th century) to one and the Rose Lane to the other side. The estate was owned by the patrician family to the Wedel in the 14th century, being court and garden at that time, and was acquired by the family Knoblauch later. Nowadays the ensemble of four wings frames a courtyard with the main entrance at the Bethmann Street via a portal overbuilt by a storey.
The massive structure of this broad portal (No. 243) is made up of diamond ashlars in both its two pillars as well as in their terminal spandrel panels. Two lion heads as part of a perch are visible above the portal to the right.
In the courtyard primarily the almost completely preserved northern wing leaps to the eye: on a simple ground floor of stones rests a storey in timber frame construction with exquisite wooden ornamentation (No. 244). A small cartouche with the date 1587 is put up above the door. The aforementioned wooden ornamentation is common in its upper part. The small dormer of the relatively high roof also displays rich wooden ornamentation. H. S. Langenbach, a former owner of the estate, had the facade of the northern being restored by the architect Otto Lindheimer.
Deutsch: Heft 21, Tafel 244 / Titel auf der Tafel: Zum grossen Speicher / Originalbeschreibung: Von der jetzigen Bethmannstrasse fällt der Blick auf ein altes Gebäude, welches auf der einen Seite auf die Rothekreuzgasse (sie führte bis zum 17. Jahrhundert den Namen Dieterichsgasse), auf der anderen Seite auf die Rosengasse stösst. Dieses Anwesen, damals Hof und Garten, gehörte im 14. Jahrhundert der Patrizierfamilie zum Wedel und gelangte später an die Familie Knoblauch. Das Ganze bildet jetzt einen von vier Bauflügeln umschlossenen Hof mit dem Haupteingang nach der Bethmannstrasse (früher Schüppengasse) und zwar durch ein Tor, welches mit einem Stockwerk überbaut ist.
Dieses breite Portal (No. 243), ein massives Gefüge, ist sowohl in seinen beiden Pfeilern, als in der Wölbung und deren abschliessenden Zwickelfeldern aus Diamantquadern hergestellt. Rechts über dem Portale sind auf einem Tragsteine zwei Löwenköpfe ersichtlich.
Im Innern des Hofes fällt vor Allem der fast noch vollständig erhaltene Nordflügel in's Auge: auf einem einfach gehaltenen unteren Steinbau ruht ein Fachwerkgeschoss mit vorzüglicher Holzornamentirung (No. 244). In einem Schildchen über der Türe ist die Jahreszahl 1587 angebracht. Die oben genannte Holzornamentik ist im oberen Teile einfach gehalten. Auf dem verhältnismässig hohen Dache sehem wir eine zierliche Dachgaube, dessen Fenster ebenfalls in reicher Holzverzierung umrahmt ist. Ein früherer Eigentümer der Liegenschaft, H. S. Langenbach, hat die Fassade dieses Nordbaus durch den Architekten Otto Lindheimer restaurieren lassen.
