Barocke Kaisertreppe von 1742 im Frankfurter Römer nach der 1885 erfolgten Renovierung, in nordwestlicher Richtung betrachtet, Scan eines Kupfertiefdrucks um 1900.

An der Decke ist das Fresko von Giovanni Battista Innocenzo Colombo (1717-1801) zu erkennen, daß er 1741 im Auftrag von Kaiser Karl VII an der Kaisertreppe im Römer unter dem Thema Der Sieg der Tugend über die Untugend malte, an den Wänden illusionistische Malerei - inklusive eines Scheinportals in der Nordwand - die vor allem der künstlichen Vergrößerung des Raumeindrucks diente. Rechts hinter dem Gelände führte der Weg in die Rotunde des Goldenen Schwans, link über den Bildrand hinaus den Ausgang der Kaisertreppe fortgesetzt in den Kaisersaal. 1885 stellte der Frankfurter Kunstmaler Karl Julius Grätz (1845-1912) im Auftrag der Stadt Frankfurt die knapp 100 Jahre zuvor übertünchten Gemälde der barocken Kaisertreppe wiederher. Diese Arbeit ging durch die Bomben während des Zweiten Weltkriegs unter.
