Summary edit

Description
English: As seen in June 2021. One of the earliest monuments in Buffalo's Forest Lawn Cemetery, erected in October 1852 only three years after the founding of the cemetery itself, marks the site where the 1,158 bodies once interred in the Franklin Square Cemetery were reburied. (Located on the site that's now Erie County Hall, Franklin Square Cemetery began to be used as such in the very earliest years of Buffalo's history of white settlement, was formally established by the Holland Land Company in 1821, but was closed to new burials in 1832 due to a cholera epidemic, and had been unmaintained and grown increasingly dilapidated since then.) Inscriptions on the monument, in addition to relating the foregoing information, specifically name War of 1812 veterans Major Lodowick Morgan, Captains Alexander John Williams, Joseph Kinney, Simon D. Wattels, and Myndert M. Dox, and one Sergeant Taylor, as well as former Seneca Nation chief "Farmer's Brother" (Honayawas), as among the (re-)interred.
