Description
English: Freight train past industrial units. View along the railway line by the site of the former Tivetshall station. Tivetshall was a railway station > 1572341 on the Great Eastern Main Line as well as the western terminus of the Waveney Valley Line from Beccles > 1572337. It was first opened in 1849. The Waveney Valley Line was opened in 1885. Tivetshall station was closed in 1966. Nothing remains of the Waveney Valley Line.

The since electrified track of the former Great Eastern Main Line is presently operated by National Express East Anglia, running trains from Norwich to London Liverpool Street.

A section of the track is currently being rebuilt and the line is closed over the weekend, with the only trains running being freight trains that supply building materials such as railway sleepers, ballast and sand. Here an EMD Class 66 diesel locomotive in GBRailfreight's yellow and blue livery > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572419 hauls wagons filled with sand to the construction site north of Tivetshall St Margaret. GBRailfreight is owned by First Group (First Great Western).

The train was stopped by the level crossing on Hales Street > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572400 until Station Road (B1134) > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572393 was closed to road traffic. Prompted by the 'all clear' signal in form of a green flag the locomotive approached the Station Road level crossing at slow speed, passing a variety of track construction paraphernalia that has been deposited within easy reach for the workers, beside the track > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1572409. Whilst a number of wagons are passing the level crossing, the locomotive is past the industrial units seen behind the wagons, and approaching the silos at The Maltings beyond. In the foreground the site of the former Tivetshall station can be seen.
