An undated early 18th-century engraving containing advice from a (married) Frenchwoman to her potential lovers on the proper spaniel-like behavior to adopt:

The poem reads:

"Ce Chien qui m'obeit doit servir de modéle
A tout galant qui voudra m'en conter:
Il est discret, complaisant et fidéle,
Amants, pour être aymés, tachez de l'jmiter."

The small writing says:

"Jnventé et peint par Jac. Courtin
et Gravé par J. B. de Poilly
Je vend a Paris chez les freres de Poilly rue St Jacques a la belle Jmage -"
(Note that "j" is sometimes used where modern French would use "i", and the e-grave letter "è" is not used according to modern norms...)
