Description Lot-2916-4: Russian Intervention, 1918-1920. Biggest Empty Elevator In The World. With thousands of acres of wheat land untilled and idle, the inhabitants of South Russia are starving except for the help of the American Red Cross and other relief agencies. The picture shows the grain storage elevator at Novorossiak which has the largest capacity of any elevator in Europe but is now empty as the stomachs of those who are spending their time in political wars. The steamer is the French destroyer La Suippe has conveyed a number of American Red Cross relief workers from France to Russian ports. Photograph received January 1920. American Red Cross Collection.
