Français : Franges de diffraction à l'extérieur de l'ombre d'un écran à bord rectiligne - L'écran AG occulte partiellement la lumière issue de la source S. Au point P, les rayons issus de tous les points du front d'onde AMB se superposent au rayon direct SMP. Fresnel a utilisé ce type de figure pour introduire ses intégrales (de Fresnel) qui intègrent la contribution de tous ces rayons depuis A jusqu'à l'infini.

English: The AG screen partly occults the light of the source S. At point P, secondary rays coming from all parts of the wave front AMB combine with the direct ray SMP. Fresnel used this type of figure to illustrate the introduction of his (Fresnel) integrals.
