| Description |
English: Friar Gate - Derby Number 46 Friar Gate is a curious property. It appears to the passerby to be one of the elegant old town houses that this historic street is well known for. It is in fact a sham. It was built in the mid 19th Century to disguise a mill, as there were strict rules about the type of property that could be built on the former Nuns Green. Today this frontage serves a similar function, disguising the monstrosity that is the Derby Tax Office - a typical 1970s office block on Agard Street (which runs parallel to Friar Gate). |
