Summary edit
DescriptionFrinton-on-Sea, The Greensward - geograph.org.uk - 1473776.jpg |
English: Frinton-on-Sea: The Greensward The Greensward is a continuous grassed area that extends for about 1½ miles or about 2½ kilometres between the sea cliffs and the built-up area of Frinton-on-Sea. It was created in 1903 to stabilize the cliffs and to strengthen the sea defences for the then newly developed resort of Frinton. Old Ordnance Survey maps of the 1880s showing the area prior to the construction of Frinton show this area as fields leading right up to the cliff edge.
In this view 1473482, 1473491 and 1473522 are visible left to right in the distance. On the right are the backs of some of the massed ranks of beach huts. |
