ng like a statue in the shadow of an acacia,about a hundred yards away. I fired, but the boardid not stir. Cautiously I crept nearer, and then Irealised that my boar was nothing but a tree stump !Fortunately there was no one looking on to makefun of me. On ithe march the Duke shot an eland, a hog, and aDucker. At the Musgum village of Madubbu wereceived the welcome news of an improvement inRoders condition. The bush now consisted chieflyof acacias, which grew so close together that we couldsee nothing. Suddenly our guide pointed out threeequine antelopes (Hippotragus equinus) standing ina clearance. I looked on whilst the Duke stalkedthem, and succeeded in shooting two of them. Beforethey were skinned I sketched the dead animals.
