Summary edit

Description
English: Frosterly Ford stopper This stopper in the River Wear is formed by the downstream edge of a concrete-based ford across the river. It is not a significant problem for paddlers and at this level is starting to wash out. However, its main impact is in tempting the canoeist to go river right where the stopper seems less fierce, but in lower water levels, this leads to an awkward bouldery bump down under the right arch of the road bridge. Far better to paddle confidently through the stopper river left and then deal with the deeper and faster water under the road bridge's left span. It's not a good place to swim, as just downstream lies a small weir with another stopper, which can be quite retentive in moderately low water levels.
