Long term videos of some more active areas of the galaxy interest me.

Summary edit

Description
English: Long term videos of some more active areas of the galaxy interest me. Anything that can show space as dynamic and in more than the two dimensions is great because it is very hard to get out of the human perspective of our sky being flat and unchanging.

This one is not ideal but you hopefully can observe that there are a lot of variable stars in the galactic center. Three frames of a single filter (f153m) from the following epochs -- 2010-06, 2011-09, 2012-08 -- were combined to create a grayscale animation. Data from 2010 were used to colorize the three frames. The variable stars are most easily seen in full screen HD mode.

It bothers me a lot that I can't seem to get the two somewhat raw frames I retrieved from DADS and the one frame I got the usual way to match up even though they come from the same instrument, the same filter, and the same exposure time. It should match a lot better than it does (really, there should be a way to get it nearly perfect) and there shouldn't be that strange brightness jump which is distracting from the subtle variation of the stars.

North is NOT up. It is 45.5° counter-clockwise from up.
