Português: Garça-branca-pequena, Egretta garzetta (Linnaeus 1758) Garça-branca-pequena Egretta garzetta (Linnaeus 1766) ? Espécie oriunda do continente europeu, que ocorre de forma dispersa na Península Ibérica, em França, Itália e para leste, até ao norte da região do Cáucaso. No inverno, a maior parte das populações migra para o Norte e Centro de África; no entanto, muitas passam o inverno no Mediterrâneo europeu. É um visitante regular no arquipélago da Madeira onde ocorre em números superiores durante os meses de outono e inverno. A sua silhueta e cor branca tornam-na uma ave facilmente reconhecida pela população. Pode ser observada em portos, praias e zonas costeiras, na foz de ribeiras, em reservas de água e lagoas. Na ribeira de Machico e no Funchal, há árvores que servem de dormitório, no qual por vezes se concentram vários indivíduos. Alimenta-se sobretudo de insetos aquáticos, crustáceos e pequenos peixes, assim como de pequenos anfíbios e répteis. |
