Português: Garça-real, Ardea cinerea (Linnaeus 1758) Garça-real, Ardea cinérea (Linnaeus 1758). Encontra-se bem distribuída pela Europa, onde nos últimos anos do séc. XX se verificou um incremento populacional, em especial no noroeste e centro. Embora parte das populações se concentre em algumas áreas da Europa durante o inverno, a maior parte das populações do Norte migram para o Mediterrâneo ou para sul do Sahara. É uma migradora regular no arquipélago da Madeira, e ocorre em todas as ilhas. Na ilha da Madeira, é possível observar esta ave durante quase todo o ano; no entanto, é durante os meses de setembro e outubro que se observa o maior número de indivíduos. De forma geral, os indivíduos são observados isolados, embora no período de migração existam registos de bandos com 15 ou mais aves. Pelo facto de ser uma ave grande, de pescoço e patas compridos, é facilmente reconhecível. Pode ser encontrada em lagoas, na foz de ribeiras, em praias e outros locais com água, onde procura comida (rãs e peixes). |
