Summary edit
DescriptionGastrointestinal stromal tumour - superf - intermed mag.jpg |
Intermediate magnification micrograph of a gastrointestinal stromal tumour, commonly abbreviated GIST. H&E stain. GISTs arise from the interstitial cells of Cajal which are found between the layers of the muscularis propria;[1] thus, GISTs are typically centred on the muscularis propria. The tumour classically consists of spindle cells; however, it may have epithelioid cells as in this case. The diagnosis is confirmed with (positive) immunostains (CD34 and CD117). The main differential diagnosis is leiomyoma. Related images
