| Description |
English: Gates near Stockcross. Very imposing rusticated gate piers topped by carved trophies of Roman armour and weaponry. They are dated to somewhere between 1662 and 1678, and their designer may have been William Winde. In the late C18th they were brought from Hamstead Marshall House, a nearby mansion destroyed by fire in 1718, to the north-west entrance of Benham Park. The gates are late C19th. Grade I listed. The martial tone alludes to the military prowess of the 1st Lord Craven for whom Hamstead Marshall was built.
