Deutsch: 1924 vom Turner-Club Gelsenkirchen von 1874 e.V. (TCG 1874) errichtetes Kriegerdenkmal für die im Ersten Weltkrieg gefallenen Turner aus Gelsenkirchen; Standort Hauptstraße Ecke Ringstraße unmittelbar an der Aula des Grillo-Gymnasiums. Das altarförmige Denkmal ist von einem Sargdeckel mit zwei Zieramphoren bekrönt. Die Inschrift lautet: Zum Gedächtnis unserer im Weltkriege 1914-1918 gefallenen 71 Turnbrüder / Treue um Treue / Gelsenkirchen am 50. Jahrestag der Vereinsgründung / 27. Juli 1924 / Turner-Club 1874 e.V. / Deutsche Turnerschaft. In dem Kranz im Sockelfeld des linken Vorsprungs heißt es noch: Zum Gedenken der 51 gefallenen Turnbrüder 1939-1945. Auf dem Sockel ist die Skulptur eines auf Lorbeeren ruhenden Stahlhelms zu sehen. Das rechte Sockelfeld zeigt das Emblem der Deutschen Turnerschaft (früherer Dachverband der Turnvereine Deutschlands); darüber die Skulptur eines Eisernen Kreuzes. |
