Description
English: Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, Jr., Command Pilot of the Gemini 5 spacecraft is hoisted into a Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 5 (HS-5) after the Gemini 5 eight day mission. The NASA Gemini 5 spacecraft was launched at 9:00 a.m., EST, August 21, 1965. Splashdown occured at 07:56 hrs, EST, 29 August 1965.
HS-5 was assigned to Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 54 (CVSG-54) aboard the aircraft carrier USS 'Lake Champlain (CVS-39) for the recovery of Gemini 5.
