Description
English:

Typed document, black text on white paper.

Washington D C February 8th 1912 Col John P. Nicholson Chairman Dear Col Yours received today. I agree with you. There is no use in the ‘fought to for the faith of the father’. Col. Smith spent some hours with me last week and we went over the whole subject. I wrote him on his return about the same as stated in your letter, if not as well. I am expecting a reply by return mail. The order of the Sec. of War I had copied and sent to Col. Smith for the use of his board. It is useless to say the inscription was formulated before the order as the Sec. holds the reins. I have not seen the design of the pedestal or of the monument as contracted for-except the blue prints of the Angle ___ High Water Mark. I think I can induce Col Smith to do away with the names of Virginia organizations as it would be duplicating the Va Tablets. As for myself I would like the monument free from inscription. I will send Col. Smith’s reply to me, as soon as it reaches me. Hoping you are well. Truly yours L.L. Lomax
