| Description |
English: Georgemas Junction A train heading for Thurso awaits departure from the most northerly junction on Britain's railway network. Operations here have been much simplified in recent years; traditionally trains working north from Inverness were split with separate portions running to Wick and Thurso. Nowadays the diesel multiple units simply reverse, then run the short distance down to Thurso before returning to Georgemas Junction and continuing to Wick. The operational cost savings must be considerable, and the arrangement also makes it practical to travel between Thurso and Wick by train. |
